Seasonal shopping and good cheer are promised for Y Dolydd’s traditional Christmas Market, to be held this year on Sunday 4th December. The brightly decorated inside spaces will be packed with stalls and tables selling wooden and hand-made toys, Christmas decorations, jewellery, handknits, candles, leather goods, creams and potions and much more: almost all locally made. Some artisan tenants will open their workshops. The first courtyard will be enlivened by a Christmas tree; the bookshop and History Centre will be open and seasonal refreshments will be served. Father Christmas will be there around 3.00 with a free gift for every child. Doors will open at 12 noon and admission is free.
Workhouse Film on Sale
There will also be the chance to buy the new DVD of ‘Ghosts of the Workhouse’ or ‘Ysbrydion y Wyrcws’ made by Phil and Jane Lane of Beehouse Studio. Packed with fascinating content, the disc contains the English and Welsh language versions of the film as well as the punchy trailer; a film of the opening of the Workhouse History Centre in May including folk dancing by Dawnswyr Tanat; a bilingual slide presentation, made for last year’s National Eisteddfod, with historical documents telling the story of the Llanfyllin Union and a Gallery of photographs of the Workhouse and activities over the years. Great value at only £12!
This is an opportunity to buy presents with a difference and to support local enterprises. Proceeds from stall rentals and refreshments will go to Llanfyllin Dolydd Building Preservation Trust in support of its work to preserve the historic Workhouse for the community. Any enquiries to Jean Cape on email@example.com or 07885 806428.
