A day out for history lovers at Wales’s only workhouse museum.  The new Oral History Listening Post in the Workhouse History Centre will be inaugurated at 10.30 by the Mayor, Dave Goodman, and visitors can hear local voices remembering the workhouse in its last days.  Then costume historian Sarah Thursfield will give a talk on ‘Clothing the Naked: Pauper Dress in the Early 19th Century’.  Refreshments will be available and at 1.30 Tom Morris will speak on the Life and Legend of the great Welsh entertainer Ryan Davies whose father was the Workhouse Master.  Finally Sarah will return for a practical workshop in Victorian sewing: ‘Making a Cap for a Servant’.  The workhouse building and grounds will be open as always along with the History Centre where the film ‘Ghosts of the Workhouse’ can be seen on demand.  Entry is free with a small charge for the workshop
