Christmas Market

This year the popular Christmas Market at Llanfyllin’s historic Workhouse will be followed at dusk by a Garden of Light.

The Market gets under way at noon on Sunday, 3 December.  The brightly decorated inside spaces will be packed with stalls and tables selling hand knits and textiles, slate and pewter, wreaths, liquor and honey and much more: almost all locally made.  Some artisan tenants will open their workshops.  The first courtyard will be enlivened by a Christmas tree, to be raffled afterwards. The bookshop and History Centre will be open and light lunch, cakes, mince pies and mulled wine will be served in a festive atmosphere. There will be carol singing and Father Christmas will be there around 2.00 with a free gift for every child.

As darkness falls the creation of the sensory garden at the Workhouse, carried out by a team of volunteers with support from Arts Connection, will be celebrated by a Garden of Light.  The grounds of Y Dolydd will be illuminated by paper lanterns, and and children and grown-ups can make their own lanterns and join a lantern trail that winds its way around the garden.  There will be story-telling, shadow puppets, light painting and face painting as well as hot food, mulled wine and spiced apple juice.  Activities begin at 4.00.  Entry to both events is free.
